About this role
Spendbox processes emails, extracts financial data in real time, and stores it permanently and privately for each user. The infrastructure behind this needs to be fast, reliable and cheap to operate - forever. The core pipeline works, but it was built to ship, not to scale.
You will own the entire platform layer - email ingestion, the Cloudflare Workers pipeline, database performance, reliability, observability and cost. You will make decisions that are hard to undo and you will be trusted to make them well.
What you will do
- Own the email ingestion and processing pipeline end to end - reliability, latency, throughput and cost.
- Design and maintain the Cloudflare Workers architecture that processes incoming emails and extracts structured data.
- Tune Supabase / Postgres for query performance, storage efficiency and row-level security at scale.
- Build and maintain observability: dashboards, alerting, error tracking, cost monitoring.
- Define deployment, CI/CD and release processes as we grow from one engineer to many.
- Harden the security posture across the entire stack - email receipt, storage, API, auth.
- Work directly with the founder on infrastructure decisions that affect what product we can build.
What we are looking for
- Deep experience with serverless or edge compute environments - Cloudflare Workers, Durable Objects, or equivalent.
- Strong Postgres skills: schema design, indexing, query planning, RLS, migrations.
- You have operated systems that process high volumes of events reliably. You know what breaks and why.
- You think in terms of failure modes before thinking in terms of features.
- Comfort owning reliability solo. You do not need a site reliability team to tell you what to monitor.
- You communicate clearly in writing. You document your decisions and the reasoning behind them.
Nice to have
- Experience with email infrastructure: SMTP, inbound routing, DKIM/SPF/DMARC, spam classification.
- Familiarity with Cloudflare R2, D1, Queues, or the broader Cloudflare ecosystem.
- Background in financial data or privacy-sensitive systems.
- Experience as the first or second infrastructure hire at an early-stage company.
