About this role
Spendbox is a calm, email-first tool that parses your subscription receipts and invoices automatically - no bank access, no integrations that break, no noise. The product is already in people's inboxes.
You will be an early engineer with direct influence on the architecture, product decisions, and culture. We are not looking for someone to execute tickets. We are looking for someone who thinks about the whole problem - from the email parser to the UI to the pricing page - and wants to own meaningful pieces of it for years.
What you will do
- Build and maintain core product features end-to-end - from the email ingest pipeline and parser to the React dashboard and billing.
- Write clean, well-reasoned TypeScript across the stack: Next.js frontend, Cloudflare Workers, Supabase backend.
- Own features from scoping to shipping. Write the spec, build it, ship it, monitor it.
- Improve email parsing accuracy across hundreds of vendor formats and edge cases.
- Collaborate directly with the founder to define what gets built next and why.
- Set early engineering standards - code review culture, deployment process, testing approach - that will define how we work as the team grows.
What we are looking for
- Strong TypeScript and React fundamentals. You can read and write complex types without getting lost.
- Experience building and shipping real products - side projects count, maybe more than most jobs.
- Genuine interest in email infrastructure, text parsing or financial data - you find these domains interesting rather than tedious.
- You default to simplicity. You reach for the boring solution first and can articulate why.
- Comfort with the full stack. You do not need a separate backend engineer to ship something that touches the database.
- You communicate clearly in writing. Most of our coordination is async and written.
Nice to have
- Experience with Cloudflare Workers, edge runtimes, or similar constrained execution environments.
- Familiarity with Supabase, Postgres, or row-level security patterns.
- Experience building email parsing or document extraction systems.
- Previous founding engineer or early engineer experience.
